Julieta Lastimoso's Story

Leonardo and Julieta Lastimoso of Calumpang, Iloilo City in the Philippines had been selling fruit for 30 years to support their family of 8 children. They always found themselves hard put to provide for even the basic needs of their daily life.

With a loan from Opportunity Kauswagan Bank, an affiliate of Taytay sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI), one of partners of MicroEnsure Philippines, they hoped to expand their small business in order to better meet their growing family needs, and especially educating their children.

In October, 2008, just four days after the release of their loan, Leonardo died of cardiac arrest. As he was still very actively engaged in his work it came as a complete shock to his family.

Mrs. Lastimoso immediately processed her husband's claim and was granted funeral assistance benefit of Php10,000 (US$200) after she submitted the initial documentary requirements to Micro Ensure.

The funeral assistance benefit is part of the basic coverage of the Life Insurance Policy under our underwriter, the Great Pacific Life Assurance Corporation (GREPALIFE). With improved policies and claims processing, she was able to receive her regular claim within a short period after completing the documents required.
