The Church has been active in providing care and healing for the sick since its earliest origins. Its commitment to organising compassionate care in an evolving hospital context has set the basis for modern health systems. Its spiritual resources provide hope and comfort for those facing the stress of pain and death. They facilitate the healing energies of faith.
Anglican health services expanded into colonial territories through the mission movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Even as public and private health systems continue to emerge, these remain a significant priority for the Church. Indeed it is evident that even the most developed health systems are benefitting from a renewal of Christian interest and influence.
The Anglican Health Network (AHN) emerged in response to calls from Anglicans around the world to increase support for this key area of mission. As a formal network of the Anglican Communion it provides a collaborative forum through which those engaged in health mission can learn from and support one another. Its most pressing objective is to promote health in those communities most vulnerable to poverty, disease and hopelessness.
The capacity to deliver its own health services is not the only driver of Anglican health mission. AHN is seeking to secure improved health services from other providers for the communities served by Anglicans. It advocates for improvements in public services and provides greater access to private sector providers through microinsurance.
At the same time, AHN is promoting a deeper understanding of the holistic nature of health and well-being in individuals as members of communities. This includes a commitment to addressing the social determinants of health and to releasing spiritual and pastoral resources for well-being.

The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) was initiated by Munich Re in April 2005 in response to the growing realisation that insurance solutions can play a role in adaptation to climate change, as suggested in the Framework Convention and the Kyoto Protocol. This initiative is formed by insurers, climate change and adaptation experts, NGOs, and policy researchers intent on finding solutions to the risks posed by climate change. MCII provides a forum and gathering place for insurance-related expertise applied to climate change issues.
